Cling to what is good. Romans 12:9
Happy Thursday. Ever wonder whether when we forgive, we also have to forget? Most of us know that we are commanded to forgive, just as we have been forgiven. Yet, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard “I just can’t forget . . .” Ever feel forgetting is preventing you from forgiving?
Forgiveness is a conscience, voluntary process of letting go of blame and negative attitudes toward yourself and others. Forgiveness helps you. However, we sometimes find that we must guard or protect ourselves from being a repeated victim, whether of a crime or a simple social situation. Sometimes we might also be afraid that we might repeat past actions that have caused us pain, even when we did not necessarily make a mistake or do wrong. This is why we cannot forget. Remembering is a protection mechanism to prevent future pain. So, you can forgive and remember to protect yourself from being in the situation again.
The important thing is to forgive and let go of any bitterness. We all make mistakes and are so blessed to be forgiven. God bless you!
