Use Your Gifts to Change the World Wednesday – Take a Break to Help Others

Love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.      1 Peter 4:8

It’s Wednesday already!  I can hardly believe it.  Those of us who have shorter work weeks because of holidays often feel like the work load is the same, but the amount of time to complete it is shorter.  We might even feel like we need to just close the door to all questions, so we can get our work done and meet deadlines.

Yesterday, was one of those days for me.  It seemed like I just couldn’t get anything accomplished.  I was putting fires out all day.  Yet, at the end of the day I realized that stopping to help the people working in my office and visiting my office put me ahead of my work game.  Plus, it helped others to realize their importance to me.  In this age of technology we often forget that our human resources are our most important resources.   Taking time to help our staff helps them to be better at their jobs.  Stopping to listen to their stories also helps us to identify issues at home that may be affecting their day.  I find it provides me opportunities to encourage them.   I work for the public in a government job.  I have found that taking time to listen and empathize with those who come to my office goes a long way too.  I hear some sad stories, but with each story I can say a silent prayer.  Sometimes just lending a loving ear goes a long way.  Whenever our lives are over, I doubt we will be remembered for the number of tasks we complete on time.  I would like to be remembered for the lives I touched.

Today, I challenge you to slow down and help others.  I promise you won’t be sorry.  God bless you.
