Spread the Love Friday – Finding Your Peace

Have you ever felt like you have lost your way? I think all of us feel like that from time to time. Recently, I began feeling lost. I was having a difficult time focusing and accomplishing mundane tasks. Maybe it was the upset in my routine, or maybe being overwhelmed by a Category 5 Hurricane followed by a pandemic . . .

“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 NKJV

Happy Friday!  For some of us that means the end of the work week.  Others may find that it is another day home fighting the Coronavirus.  Still others may be wondering how to find peace when they are unable to work, pay their bills and feed their children.  It is in the most trying of times that we can lean on our Lord for understanding and peace.  When you find yours, be sure and share it!

Have you ever felt like you have lost your way?  I think all of us feel like that from time to time.  Recently, I began feeling lost.  I was having a difficult time focusing and accomplishing mundane tasks.  Maybe it was the upset in my routine, or maybe being overwhelmed by a Category 5 Hurricane followed by a pandemic. Then, about the time I had lined up my book signings, they were all cancelled due to COVID-19.  Like many of you I have been unable to see my children and grandchildren.  I have been working, but in isolation for the most part.  The worst part was when we began worship services over FaceBook Live.  I continued to teach Sunday School and youth classes through ZOOM, but it just didn’t feel right.  I started noticing that I was short-tempered.  So, I took a time out.

Sounds funny as I type it.  Time out is usually a phrase used to punish naughty children.  However, having tried it on myself, I can clearly see the benefits.  I took off five days from work around a long holiday week.  I didn’t totally rest or isolate myself from work, but I was able to gain perspective and insight.  When I returned to work yesterday, I felt refreshed.  This morning, I was singing praise songs in the shower.  My joy is back!

I was listening to a speaker earlier in the week, who explained that in order to overcome emotional stress, sometimes we need to go further down before we can go back up.  In my case, I took a break and turned to God.  Surpassing understanding is phrase that is difficult to understand, as is the transformation I’ve felt over the last few days.  Understanding is not what is important.  The truth is we can’t control everything.  The more we try, the more overwhelmed we become.  When we trust God, we don’t have to be overwhelmed.  He will always take care of us.

Take time to renew yourself if you are feeling overwhelmed by stress.

Many blessings!
