The Brotherhood of the World Award

The Brotherhood of the World Award

I was nominated for the Brotherhood of the World Award by  Crystal’s site (Originally Country Living).  This is my first time receiving a nomination for this award and I am honored.  Thank you.  If you haven’t visited Crystal’s Site, I encourage you do so.  The recipes, stories and photography are amazing!

The rules for the Brotherhood of the World Award awards

  1.  Thank the bloggers who nominated you and link back to them.
  2. List the rules and display the badges on your blog.
  3. Answer the questions.
  4. Nominate other bloggers and notify them.
  5. Come up with questions for them to answer.

Questions for the Brotherhood of the World Award.  I am asking my nominees to answer the same questions.

1.  How do you find inspiration for your posts?

When I first started blogging, I tried to plan my blogs in advance.  That didn’t work out too well, though I didn’t realize it at first.  There were a couple of days I was running late and wrote my blog without much preparation.  Those were the days that I received the most comments and likes.  After a while I realized that those were the times I was listening to the Holy Spirit, not trying to plan everything out in advance.  So, I don’t do any preparations in advance other than my regular Bible study.  It is rare that I don’t have something I feel called to share.  On those rare occasions I pray and read my Bible.

2.  What do you like most about blogging?  I enjoy the feedback most.  There is nothing like reading a comment that a post came at the right time to someone.  I’m glad to be used by God.

3.  What is your biggest challenge as a blogger? Time.

4.  What motivates you to keep blogging?   I don’t want to miss an opportunity to help others for our sweet Lord.

5.  What do you do in your free time? I don’t have much, but I like to help others.  When I need a time out, I enjoy reading and watching movies.

6.  Who is the most important person in your life? My husband.

7.  What unexpected blessings has writing a blog brought you? New friends.

8.  Who would you want to read your blog that doesn’t?  Family and friends.

9.  What is your favorite blog post?  I don’t have a favorite.

10.  Are you currently working on a new project? What is it?  No, but I look forward to publishing my research in the future.

Try Something New Tuesday – Trust

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Happy Tuesday!  It feels like autumn in Florida, which is wonderful! I enjoy taking walks outside this time of year.  It’s a great time to talk with God about whatever is on your mind.  He always listens.

Do you feel like we are living in bad times?  Are you and your family distressed by images seen on the news?  Do you wonder if there is hope?  I understand these feelings, because I have almost completely stopped watching the news.  I watched the evening news last night and was disappointed that more of the reporting wasn’t focused on all the good that happened in Las Vegas.  There were strangers helping strangers.  There were medical personnel that stayed to help, when they could have just as easily gone home to their families.  There were people who protected their loved ones.  There were first responders, including Police Officers, who put their lives in danger for those around them.  These are the real heroes and they should be celebrated more.  If you are one of these people, I think you are wonderful!  If you are worried about the events going on in the world, fight the good fight and trust God.  He has a bigger plan than we can understand, but he will be with you no matter what!

Today, trust God.  God bless you.

Your Disrupted Plans Might Make a Huge Difference for Others

When you go through deep waters I will be with you.  Isaiah 43:2

This morning I’m drinking my coffee watching the television coverage of Hurricane Harvey.  My prayers are extended to families affected by the storm and for the safety of those in the storm’s path. Living in Florida I understand how destructive and frightening hurricanes can be.  I urge anyone in danger to take the precautions local officials are issuing.

Have you ever been on such a tight schedule that you have every minute  planned?  Do you feel like unexpected events throw you off course?  Well, say hello to my life! Yesterday, I had rescheduled my hair appointment and had plans to get my shopping done, get home early and start cleaning house for a birthday party.  Instead, in the middle of washing out my hair color, I received an emergency call to pick up my nephew from school.  My poor friend and hairdresser had to rush.  Before it was over I picked up another nephew and a niece.  My time was gone.  Add to that, that the past just keeps swiping me in the face.  Sometimes it’s more than I can tolerate alone.  I’m so glad I’m never alone.  God has me.  Perhaps this is what I was born for – to help and provide comfort to those around me, even though, I’m probably more broken than the others.  So, this morning I’m looking at my dirty house thinking “does it really matter how clean the house is?”  I’m reminded of the story of Martha and Mary.  Martha wanted everything to be perfect for Jesus, but Mary soaked up his attention, not wasting a moment.  Yes, some cleaning and preparations need to be done, but at the end of the day, people matter most!

Today, I encourage you to take a step back and put your priorities into perspective.  God bless you.

Spread the Love Friday – Build Them Up

Encourage each other and build each other up.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Good Morning!  Have you ever been so excited that you just can’t wait for something to happen?  Tomorrow we are giving my grandson a birthday party.  He turned three on the 18th,  but I’m still excited.  Funny, when I was a child it seem to take so long for birthdays to come around.  Now, birthdays come around way too fast.  We are so blessed to be able to see the world through his eyes.

I’m beyond happy this morning, but everyone does not feel the same.        If you know someone with struggles this morning, build them up.  If you are struggling, know that everything is temporary.  I love you and God loves you.  Never give up.

Have a blessed day!  God bless you.

Try Something New Tuesday – Fix Your Eyes on Him

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary.  But what is unseen is eternal.                              2 Corinthians 4:18

Happy Tuesday!  It’s a great day to try something new!

Have you ever felt like everyone is against you?  Do you feel hopeless and afraid?  Does it seem like things couldn’t possibly be worse?  We have all felt this way from time to time.  However, there are some challenges that are so big that we just can’t face them alone.  Hebrews 12:2 says that we should fix our eyes on Jesus.  As I have said many times before, we are never alone and he is always with us.  Yet, there is more.  When we are focused on Jesus, we are focused on good, rather than our troubles.  We are focused on love, rather than the weight of the world.  We are focused on faith, rather than being afraid that everything falls on our shoulders to handle.  We are focused on what his pain and suffering means for us today.  He can and will change the outcome of your situation, if you will give him a chance.

Today, fix your eyes on Jesus, instead of the problems of the world.  God bless you.

Tell Me Something Good Monday – Glow in the Dark

For he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.   1 Peter 2:9

Happy Monday.  I missed you guys so much.  We live in a rural area and the Internet has been out in our neighborhood since Friday.  We still don’t have Internet service, but I came to work early this morning so I could post.

My good news is you CAN live without the Internet!  It’s amazing how much time I had this weekend.  This experience made me realize that digital devices suck up your time.  I spent time reading, swimming, cleaning house and just resting.  It was awesome!  Yet, I must admit that I missed the Internet.  I couldn’t work on my classes, post in my blog, couldn’t read your blogs, or keep in touch with others (well except by the old fashion landline telephone method).  It’s really funny how dependent we are on the Internet.  When I was a child the closest thing to a computer, anyone I knew had, was a calculator. No one had cellular telephones.  In fact, my grandmother was on a party landline telephone.  You could pick up her phone and hear the neighbor’s talking.  It is amazing how far we have come.  That brings me today’s great event – the eclipse.  I was in middle school during the last eclipse.  We made special devices in science class so we could view it.  God is the best artist!

Are you dreading the drama this morning?  Is your work world full of stress?  Is Monday your least favorite day of the week?  Is there someone you just don’t want to see?  Are you afraid others will learn secrets from your past or worst yet, present?  You are not alone.  Many people get physically ill on Monday mornings.  Stress has been linked to physical and mental illnesses, which can shorten your life.  We all have skeletons in our closet, people who give us a hard time, and drama we have to contend with, at least a little on Monday.  It’s okay.  It doesn’t matter how bad things are, let God’s light shine through you.  Others will see God’s work in you.  As Jason Gray sings “the more broke you are, the more the light gets through!”  Isn’t that great!  Be happy and thankful.  Shine for the Lord in all you do today.

Let you light shine for the Lord.  God bless you.

Spread the Love Friday – Be Full of God!

Always put your hope in God.  Hosea 12:8

Happy Friday!  It’s a beautiful day to spread God’s love.  We all go through trials and tribulations in our life, but we know that we can turn to God at any time for strength.  It’s so comforting to know that we can always count on him.

Have you ever thought of what it means to be “full of God”?  It means that his glory just radiates through us all the time.  We just glow when we are full of God, because his love is bubbling out of us.  Sometimes I think that is all we need to do, and our life is a witness to others.  It doesn’t mean that we never make mistakes.  It just means that we have God beside us, and we will always overcome whatever trials we face with his help.

Today, be full of God!  God bless you.

Forgiveness Thursday – Come to God’s Table

If you forgive the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in Heaven will also forgive you.  Matthew 6:14

Happy Thursday!  It’s a great time to ask for forgiveness and to forgive others.

Do you ever have a difficult time forgiving?  Do you forgive someone only to find the same thing happens repeatedly?  Imagine how frustrated God must be with us.  I know I make the same mistakes over and over.  The truth is we don’t need to wait until Forgiveness Thursday to forgive.  We should stop what we are doing immediately and forgive someone when they have wronged us.  I have a professor who says he pulls off the side of the road when he begins to experience road rage, so he can get his heart in the right place.  It makes me laugh.  You must admit, if you are running late for work, and you have to pull off the road, you’ll get straight with God quickly.  It’s tough, but it keeps your heart pure and prevents bitterness.  We are so fortunate that God forgives us, no matter how many times we make a mistake or how bad it is.  All we have to do is ask for forgiveness.  It’s so simple that some refuse to believe.

Today, I encourage you to release your soul from guilt and anger.  Ask for forgiveness, while forgiving others.  God bless you.

Forgiveness Thursday – For Those Suffering

This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me and given me life.  Psalm 119:50

It’s Forgiveness Thursday, and some of my friends are hurting today. I have some friends who have had a recent relationship break up.  I also have some friends who have recently had to say farewell to a family member who has passed.  It doesn’t get much tougher than saying goodbye when you don’t want to, or feeling rejection.  It’s a time when people build up walls around them and hurt the people who love them the most.  Of course, their intention is not to hurt, they are just trying to get through the tough times that they are experiencing.  We all know it too.  Have you ever tried to say the right thing, and struck out in a huge way?  I certainly have.

These are also times when people who are hurting turn to substances like alcohol, tobacco and drugs for comfort.  There is only one who can help in times like these, and that’s our Heavenly Father.    First Corinthians 10:13 tells us that “there hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”  Isn’t that awesome!  He understands and is always there.  You are his child.  He wants your happiness.  Your life is not over.  A new chapter is just beginning.

So, if you are sad or suffering today, put your trust in the one who knows the most about healing hearts!  God bless you.
